RADLEY ENGINEERING WESTERN INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

HAT TRICK HARRY SEALS ARDMORE WIN

ARDMORE 3-8 DUNGARVAN 0-9

GOALS by Harry O Leary at the end of the first half, half way through the second and at the very end of proceedings, ensured a good win for Ardmore in the first round of the Western IFC against Dungarvan in Pairc Ui Cholmain sa Sean Phobail last Saturday afternoon. O Leary took each of his goals with some style in a Man of the Match performance that saw him finish with an overall tally of 3-2 from play.

Ardmore began the better with a pointed free by Seamus Keating and a score from play by Jack Keane. Dungarvan responded well and went ahead by the 14th minute with Cathal Curran scoring from play and Michael Kiely adding 0-2(1f).

John O Brien levelled for the winners and the seasiders had the opportunity to go ahead in the 23rd minute but Ciaran Keating’s penalty effort came back off the upright.  Ed Flavin did well to deny Dungarvan a goal at the other end with Gavin Christopher salvaging a point before Jack Lacey provided for a Colm Curran point to leave the Blues 0-2 in front just before the break.

However, Harry O Leary’s first goal arrived in the 30th minute when James Flavin sent a brilliant diagonal pass in his path and O Leary finished in style past Tadhg Murray in the Dungarvan goal, 1-3 to 0-5.. Ardmore kicked four first half wides to Dungarvan’s three.

SECOND HALF

Ardmore drove on in the second half with the first three scores by O Leary, Seamus Keating and O Leary, again, all from play and Dungarvan badly required a goal to stay in the game, behind by 1-6 to 0-5. Kealan Daly pointed before Michael Kiely had a penalty kick saved by Conor Moore in the Ardmore goal.

Harry O Leary put the game almost out of the reach of Dungarvan with his second goal, a clever dipping effort but a pointed ‘45’by Eoin O Callaghan and a fine score by corner back Sean Hyslop left just 0-4 the difference with 52 minutes on the clock, 2-6 to 0-8.

James Flavin and Jack Lacey traded points before Ardmore accounted for the final two scores of the game, a point by sub Joe McNamara and Harry O Leary’s third goal and the completion of his commendable hat trick.

Best for the winners, apart from O Leary, included Oisin Dwyer, Seamus Keating, Ed and James Flavin, Padraig Foley and Jack Keane.
