MAURA CURRAN
It is with deepest regret that we have to talk about the death of our friend Maura Curran, who in her life time was one of the greatest supporters of our club. Along with her late husband Michael she always had a keen eye on how our club was progressing and was always on hand to help with all our fund raising activities especially our club Lotto which she had a special interest in,been the overseer of Lotto Procedures up to very recently. We have lost a special Lady and a friend and she will be sadly missed by all who support the Old Borough. The club was saddened to hear of the death of our first lady club secretary in the early hours of October 15th 2017. Maura became our secretary in 1983 and she served in that capacity until 1995 during which time she oversaw the purchase of our club grounds and our three in a row County senior football titles. Maura also served as PRO from 1995 until 2000 and she was served as either membership officer or on the committee until the year 2008.

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL
We travelled to Cappoquin last Saturday to play the Western Football Semi final against Ballyduff. Yet again we were beset with a slow start and we had to wait for the first goal to settle and for a while it looked like we would score more goals than points. We came away with a good win and now have a Western Final to look forward to, we do not know who we are playing as the other semi final between Colligan and Modeligo was a draw. Well done to all concerned.

NEW DRAW
We are now in the happy position to launch our latest fund raiser, which the main prize is €5000 worth of Shopping Vouchers from Garvey’s Super Valu, 2nd Prize is €250 worth of Shopping Vouchers from Garvey’s, 3rd prize is €150 worth of Shopping Vouchers from Garvey’s. Draw will take place on Sat 16th of December 2017, Vouchers are in €100 denominations and terms and conditions apply and tickets are €5 and can be got from any committee member and we would ask all our members to give support in the selling of these tickets as well as buying them.

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL(picture 1 victorious Intermediate Footballers, missing from picture Daragh Lyons),(picture 2 Captain Aaron Donnelly holding Cup aloft)
Last Sunday night we travelled the short distance to the Fraher Field, to play Colligan in the Western Final of the 2017 Intermediate Championship, this was a very close encounter, with hard physical play the order of the game and our lads were not found wanting as they seem to enjoy what was put in front of them. There was never more than 3 points between the teams in the 68 minutes of the game and in the end we came out on top by just the bare minimum in what was a great win for the club after a season of disappointment in the hurling championship. On the negative side of last nights victory was the injury to Daragh Lyons at the end of the game, we wish Daragh all the best in his recovery. Well done to all concerned

FIXTURE

Club notes 11th Oct

U16 HURLING
We travelled the short distance to Bushey Park last Thursday to play St Carthage’s in the quarter final of the county championship. This was a hard ask for a team that was short some of our best men through injury and so it turned out when the Lismore outfit showed their class to pull away for an easy win, and by this defeat we now end our interest in the Championship, well done to Coach Eamonn Morrissey and to Chris Mc Govern and Conor Sheridan for their effort during the year.

SENIOR HURLING
On Sunday last we travelled to Fraher Field to play Passage in the quarter final of the County Championship. After a very slow start we came into the game more in the second half and led by 2 points with the game in the melting pot. However the concession of 2 soft frees and some wonderful full forward play by Eoin Kelly saw us 3 points down with the game nearly over and try as we might we could not get back the initiative and lost in the end by 2 points. Passage who now seem to be our bogie team go forward to play De La Salle in the semi-final, while we can concentrate all our efforts on the big ball.
