WINNING START TO SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Dungarvan 3-20 Tallow 2-13.

Our senior hurlers were deserving 0-10  winners over Tallow in the first round of the County senior hurling championship in Cappoquin this Saturday evening March 31st 2018.

First half goals by Cormac(2) and Patrick Curran helped us to a 3-10 to 2-7 half time lead. We won the second half by 0-10 to 0-6 and overall we had eight players working the scoring board including all six starting forwards.

Our next championship game is this Thursday April 4th against Fourmilewater in the Fraher Field .

 Senior hurling League
We were defeated by Roanmore in our first game of the senior hurling league at the Gold Coast grounds on a a scoreline of 14 pts to 12 pts.
On Saturday evening last we played our second game of the league when we played Ballyduff Upper where we recorded a win on a scoreline of 2-18 to 21 pts helped by goals in either half scored by Kealon Daly and Cormac Curran who finished with a personal tally of 1-9.

Senior Hurling Championship
The senior hurling championship gets underway this weekend when we play Tallow on Saturday, 31st March in Cappoquin at 6 p.m. Please come out and support our hurlers.
Under-21 Championship
Our u-21 footballers were beaten in the semi-final of the West u-21 football championship by  An Ghaeltacht in Bushy Park on Sunday morning last.
Minor football.
Our minor footballers will play Cois Bhride on Monday morning next in Clogherane with a 12 noon throw-in time.
U-16 football
The under 16 footballers will play Clan Na nGael on Thursday, 5th April at 7.00 p.m. in Dunhill.
Under 14 hurling
On Saturday morning last our under 14 hurlers took part in a tournament with Ballygunner and St. Finbarrs. We were victors in one game and beaten in our second match. Super hurling was on show from all three teams and the boys can be very proud of their performances in both games. We would like to thank both Finbarrs and Ballygunner for making the trip to Clogherane. A big thank you as always to our parents for supplying refreshments on the day.

 Birthday celebrations
Congratulations and birthday wishes to our esteemed and valued clubman Paddy Fitzgerald who celebrated a milestone birthday last weekend with family and friends.
Underage training
Our young hurlers and footballers are now    finished in the Sports Centre and are heading to the outdoors of Clogherane. Meanwhile our under 10s are continuing their Monday night games in the field.
Membership
Closing date for players, insurance to be paid is the 31st March. Anyone not paid by this date are not eligible to play as they are not covered.
Bag Packing
The club will be bag packing this ThursdayFriday and Saturday in SuperValu. This is a major fundraiser for the club, so if anyone can spare a couple of hours on any of the days, it would be very much appreciated. Names can be given to Paddy Fitzgerald or Eleanor McGarry or text your name with day and time that suits to 087 4161236.
Pitches
At a meeting of the executive the committee decided that repair work on the field with lights will necessitate its closure for a short spell. Bookings will continue for our own club teams for the other pitches.

MILESTONE BIRTHDAY

Congratulations to one of our club presidents Paddy Fitzgerald who celebrated his 80th birthday last weekend. Paddy has given sterling service to the club for the last 40 years and he is currently chairman of our finance raising committee.

National Football League Win

Congratulations to club players Joe Allen, Gavin Crotty, Kieran Power and Michael Kiely who were on the Waterford senior football team that beat London in the National league in Ruislip last Sunday on a score of 1-16 to 1-14.

UNDER 21 FOOTBALL

An Ghaeltacht 6-4 Dungarvan 0-2.

Our under 21 footballers proved no match for a goal hungry An Ghaeltacht team in Bushy Park on Sunday morning. We trailed by 5-2 to 1-0 at the interval before matching our opponents a little better in the second half.

Our juvenile sub committee staged an under 14 hurling blitz in our own grounds last Saturday morning. We had a 50/50 success rate with one loss and one victory.

Kilgobinet 0-15 Dungarvan 1-10

Our junior hurlers played a useful challenge game against Kilgobinet  ahead of the championship in our own grounds on Sunday afternoon. The only goal of the game was scored by Brendan Cullinane.

UNDER 16 Football

Our under 16 football game was postponed on Saturday due to a bereavement  in our opponents club, St. Mollerans.

Hurling League v Ballyduff

Dungarvan 2-18 Ballyduff Upper 0-21.

Our senior hurlers recorded their first win in this year’s County senior hurling league with a deserving 0-3 win away to Ballyduff on Saturday March 24th.

Despite an early goal by the impressive throughout Kealan Daly, we trailed at half time by 0-12 to 1-8. An early second half goal by Cormac Curran from a Kealan Daly pass negated Eoghan Murray’s litany of pointed frees  while Cormac himself was also o target from placed balls.

We led by 0-1 at the end of normal time and further scores by Kealan Daly and Cormac Curran secured our first brace of league points. Kevin Daly continued his return to form in defence where Jamie Nagle gave a man of the match performance in  a sector that gave little away easily.

Jack Lacey laid a claim for a starting place on the championship fifteen while Cormac Curran led the attack with 1-9 to his credit.

SYMPATHY

The club extends its sincere sympathy to our Community Employer worker Timmy Coughlan Mount Stuart and the Coughlan family on the regretted death of his father Sean, Monygall, Aglish , earlier this week.

CLUB NOTICE

The club committee decided at their meeting tonight  (Thursday 22nd March) that repair work on the field with lights will necessitate its closure for a while. Bookings continue for top field and off field.
