LOCAL CLUBS DOITFORDAN FUNDRAISER ON MAY 3RD.As you all know, the covid-19 restrictions in place and Ireland is almost in “lockdown”. It is near impossible to keep up our daily routines. It is a tough time for everyone at the minute and sporting clubs and organisations around the country are no different. However, with sport in general seeming to slip further away and teams uncertain as to when they will play again we have been asked to come together and keep our personal training going for another more important reason. Local clubs Abbeyside/ Ballinacourty and Dungarvan have come together in the past to support worthy causes and this will occur again on Sunday May 3rd for the very pressing DoitforDan spinal muscular cell infusion required by baby Dan Donoher in Laois. This fundraiser locally is being motivated by former Dungarvan player Kealan ‘Sledge’ Barry who now lives in Laois. Niall and Aisling Donoher have given great service to the GAA for many years and now they need our support more than ever. Niall,Aisling and their son Dan are in a battle no young family should find themselves in. Dan is suffering from a rare muscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 and his life expectancy is barely beyond that. Dan and his parents need our help to raise 2.1 million US dollars for him to receive the medical treatment he needs in America. The medical intervention needed is a cell infusion and is only available in the States. Mindful and respectful of the restrictions currently in place we have decided to run 400km in a day on Sunday May 3rd.We ask each clubs member to map out a route (within 2kms of home) and choose to walk/run a distance of 5kms up to 10kms.Participants are asked to keep the page posted of their preparation leading up to “400km day” and to post your final run/walk on the day. Please join Team Dan in this fun challenge and please contribute what few euro you can.To date over 1 million euro has been raised but fundraising initiatives have been hampered by the covid-19 Pandemic and support is needed now more than ever.
